IMPORTANT: Please register your child for the appropriate swim level. Our classes are structured around specific skill levels so instructors can provide effective instruction to children with similar abilities.
The Aquatics Director and Swim Instructors reserve the right to move a swimmer to a different class when, based on their professional assessment, another level better fits the swimmer’s ability and safety.
For questions regarding swim lessons, please contact the Aquatics Department at [email protected].

WELCOME TO THE CANE BAY FAMILY YMCA SWIM PROGRAM
Our goal is to provide every swimmer with a safe, positive, rewarding, and enjoyable experience. YMCA programs incorporate our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and we ask swimmers, parents, caregivers, and guests to demonstrate these values while participating.
Photography & Video
To protect the privacy of our swimmers, families, and staff, photography and video recording are not permitted in the pool area during swim lessons.
Attendance & Attire
Please arrive on time and have your swimmer ready when class begins. Late arrivals can disrupt instruction and reduce your child’s available lesson time.
- Swimmers should arrive with an appropriate bathing suit and goggles.
- Children should use the restroom before class begins.
- Swimmers with long hair should secure it away from their face.
- Swimmers who are not toilet trained must wear an appropriate swim diaper with elastic around the waist and legs.
- Parents and caregivers must promptly pick up children when class ends.
- Children aged 12 and under may not leave the pool deck unless their parent or caregiver is present to pick them up.
- Children aged 12 and under must be supervised by a parent or caregiver in the locker room.
Parent/Guardian Observation
We value parents and caregivers as important partners in their child’s learning experience. At the same time, swim lessons provide children with an opportunity to develop independence, confidence, and trust in their instructor.
In some situations, a parent’s presence near the lesson area may distract the swimmer. When appropriate, YMCA staff may ask parents or caregivers to observe from the designated bleachers or viewing area on the pool deck.
Missed Classes
The YMCA does not provide make-up classes for participant absences.
If the YMCA cancels a scheduled lesson, we will make every reasonable effort to schedule a make-up class.
Communication
We are committed to providing safe, high-quality swim instruction and encourage open communication with our families.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s lessons, placement, progress, or the swim program, please contact the Aquatics Department at:
