Volunteer Coaching Overview

Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer coach with Cane Bay Family YMCA Sports. Our coaches play a vital role in creating a positive, safe, and engaging experience for all participants.

Coaching Assignments

• Coaching placements are determined based on the number of teams in each division.
• Final team assignments are made after registration closes.
• Your child will be placed on your team.

Practice Schedule

• Practices are held Monday through Friday at:
  • 5:30 PM
  • 6:30 PM
  • 7:30 PM
• Occasional weekend practices may be scheduled:
  • Sundays from 2:00–4:00 PM
• If you are unable to accommodate these times, please notify the Sports Coordinator at [email protected].

Required Training (Mandatory for All Coaches)

All head and assistant coaches must complete:

Praesidium Training: Foundations: Preventing Abuse in Youth-Serving Organizations (ENG)

Steps to Complete Training:

1. Visit: https://www.praesidiumacademy.com/redeem
2. Enter your first name, last name, email, and create a password
3. Enter the registration code:
   YMCA of Greater Charleston
4. Click Validate and agree to the Terms & Conditions
5. Complete registration and click Save & Continue
6. Scroll down and begin the course: “Foundations of Abuse.”

After Completion:

• Email a copy (.pdf or .jpg) of your certificate to [email protected]
• Certificates are valid for 1 year from completion
• If you’ve completed the training within the past year, no additional action is required

Coach Attire & Expectations

YMCA-Branded Apparel (Required):
Volunteer coaches are expected to wear YMCA-issued or YMCA-branded shirts during:

• Practices
• Games

Purpose:

• Clearly identify coaches to participants, parents, and staff
• Reinforce YMCA branding and professionalism
• Support safety and accountability on-site

Professional Appearance

• Maintain a clean, appropriate, and family-friendly appearance
• YMCA shirts promote:
  • Consistency across teams
  • Easy recognition of leadership roles

Safety & Risk Management

• YMCA apparel helps staff quickly identify:
  • Authorized adults interacting with participants
• This aligns with YMCA child protection and supervision protocols
