CANE BAY KRAKENS A

The Cane Bay Family YMCA Swim Team offers an all-year-round opportunity for swimmers ages 7 to 18.

The Cane Bay Kraken Swim Team is a competitive program run through the Cane Bay Family YMCA.

TRY-OUTS are required prior to registration. We will be having try outs August 22nd between 4:30 and 6 PM.  Please reach out to the Aquatics department to set up a tryout time. 

Team Eligibility and Try-Outs

The Cane Bay Krakens welcome swimmers from any town and school.  The team is for anyone ages 7 to 18. Swimmers ages 7-10 will need to be able to swim a full length of the pool doing front crawl stroke(freestyle)  without stopping, with their face in the water turning head to the side to breath most of the time. Swimmers are also required to swim a full length of backstroke without stopping.  Swimmers ages 11+ will be required to swim 2 lengths of crawl stroke(freestyle) without stopping, with their face in the water turning head to the side to breath most of the time. Swimmers are also required to swim 2 full length of backstroke without stopping.  Swimmers will also need a beginners knowledge of breatstroke or butterfly and flip turns.  The swim team is not the place for those who need swimming lessons.  Swimmers not meeting minimum requirements will be referred for swimming lessons and participation in the swim team at a later time.  All swimmers will need to try out prior to registering for the team. Coaches will have the final decision on who participates on the team.

Practice Groups:

Groups will be based on their age. We put great focus on technique.

The team practice times have been modified from the prior season and are reflected below:

Dryland- Wednesdays 4:30-5:30 PM

MEETS

The Cane Bay Krakens will participate in multiple meets of varying styles throughout the year.  Sign-ups for all meets will be done electronically, through Team Unify.  Please watch emails, newsletters, and Facebook for meet sign-up deadlines.  If you have not responded by the deadline, we will assume your child is not competing and therefore will not enter him/her in the meet.  MEET FEES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE MONTHLY FEES. There is a wide range of meet fees based on the size and type of meet. Therefore, parents will be required to pay meet fees with a deadline, individually, for each meet the swimmer is planning to compete in. Again, if the fee is not paid by the deadline, we assume the swimmers will not be attending the meet.

The Cane Bay Kraken Swim team is a program of the Cane Bay Family YMCA.  Please be advised that all communication internally and with other YMCAs or coaches, must go through the head coach or the Aquatics Director.  

Membership has the benefit of using the entire facility, reduced monthly fees and  access to reserving lanes in the pool for extra practice at no extra cost.
