Y Dance @ Burke High School

Welcome to Y Dance and thank you for your interest in our dance program! We have a relaxed, fun-filled atmosphere while still promoting a positive learning environment through STEAM, the arts component of STEM.  We are honored that you have chosen the YMCA to expose you and your child to the WORLD OF DANCE. 

Arts and humanities became a YMCA core program area in 1998.  Today there are more than 750 YMCA’s  providing arts programming.  YMCA’s serve 500,000 children in child care each year. They are especially well-positioned to lead arts programming for kids.  The YMCA of Greater Charleston Y Dance program is a program that specializes in various techniques of Dance, Ballethnic (Modern Ballet and African mix), Tap, and Jazz/Hip-Hop.

Dance classes for 3-15 yr old’s will be held on Saturdays at Burke High School in the Linard McCloud Fine Arts Center, 244 President Street, Charleston, SC 29403. The Fine Arts Center is located on back side of the High School on Sumter Street where you must drop off your dancer!

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN ONLINE SATURDAY AUGUST 19TH, 2023

CLASSES WILL BEGIN ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH 2023! 

• Tots (3-4) – Ballet & Tap 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM
• Beginners 1 (5-6) – Ballet & Tap 9:35 AM to 10:25 AM
• Beginners 2 (7-9) – Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Hip-Hop 10:30AM -11:30 AM
• Intermediate 1 (10-12) – Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Hip-Hop 11:35 AM to 12:35 PM
• Intermediate 2 – (13-15) Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Hip-Hop 12:40 PM to 1:40 PM

There will be no classes on Nov 25th, Dec 23th, Dec 30st, 2023 & March 30th and April 6th, 2024!

Tentative Show Date

May 18, 2024, 12PM and 4PM @ Burke HS Theater

**Payments will be auto drafted on the 1st of each month Oct thru May (8 MONTHS)

Costume fees are included in monthly payments!

***ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE***

UNIFORMS FOR ALL STUDENTS may consist of:

• PINK or BLACK tights, ankle/capri length leggings, dance pants or unitard
• Leotards (any color)
• PINK or WHITE Canvas or Leather ballet shoes
• BLACK easy strap velcro tap shoes preferred (Tots thru Beginners 1 only)
• BLACK lace up tap shoes (Beginners 2 – Intermediate only)
• BLACK jazz shoes (Intermediate thru Advance classes ONLY)

***All students are required to purchase tights for recital***
