The Cane Bay Krakens Swim Team is a competitive program run through the Cane Bay Family YMCA offering a year round opportunity for swimmers ages 6 to 20.

Tryout Information
Tryouts for the Summer 2026 season will be held on April 21st at the Cane Bay Family YMCA.
6-10 years old: 5 PM to 6 PM
11-20 years old: 6 PM to 7 PM
Tryouts for Fall/Winter 2026/2027 season will be held in August.
Tryouts are required prior to registration.
All team members are required to have an active Cane Bay Family YMCA membership to participate with the team.
Swimmers ages 6-10 will be required to swim a full length (25 yards) of the pool doing freestyle and backstroke without stopping. When swimming freestyle, swimmers must have their face in the water, turning their head to the side to breathe.
Swimmers ages 11+ will be required to swim two lengths (50 yards) freestyle and backstroke without stopping. When swimming freestyle, swimmers must have their face in the water, turning their head to the side to breathe. Additionally, swimmers must display a basic understanding of breaststroke, butterfly, and flip turns.
Swimmers not meeting minimum requirements will be referred for swimming lessons and may try out at a later time.
Coaches will have the final decision on who participates on the team, with feedback provided.
Monthly Fees
In addition to the Cane Bay Family YMCA Membership, there is a monthly fee of $85 per swimmer to participate on the team. This fee must be paid by the first practice of every month.
There are no refunds once monthly dues have been collected.
Practice Information

Dryland will be held for both groups once per week, either Monday or Wednesday at 5:30pm on the Cane Bay Family YMCA Pavillion.
Swim Group Determination
Swimmers will be split into Blue Group and Black Group based on age, swimmer abilities, and team registration numbers. The Blue Group will consist of swimmers 12 and under, while the Black Group will consist of swimmers 13+. Swimmers under the age of 12 with a higher skill level will be given the option of swimming with the Black Group based on team registration numbers and Coach’s recommendation.
Meets
As of Carolina YMCA Swim League (CYSL), the Cane Bay Krakens Swim Team participates in meets hosted by YMCA teams within the league.
A calendar of meet dates will be published once available.
Meet Registration:
Sign-Ups for all meets will be done through Sports Engine Motion.
Deadlines for individual meet registration will be provided. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to register swimmers by the deadline. Note: If a swimmer is not registered by the deadline, it will be assumed the swimmer is not competing, and will not be entered into the meet.
Meet Fees:
There is a range of Meet Fees based on the size and type of meet. These fees are determined by the Meet Host, not Cane Bay Family YMCA. Note: Meet fees are not included in the monthly fees. Meet fees must be paid by the deadline in order for swimmers to participate in the meet.
Please be advised that all communication internally and with other YMCAs or coaches, must go through the head coach or the Aquatics Director.
